The Disaster Relief Volunteer (DRV) training courses is in full swing!
In recent years, disasters have been occurring frequently worldwide, with their scale and complexity increasing day by day. These disasters not only result in material losses but, more importantly, have severe impacts on people's lives. Therefore, enhancing community disaster awareness and resilience is becoming increasingly urgent and critical.
To enhance people’s ability to respond to both natural and man-made disasters, the Taiwan Red Cross (TRC) plans to organize six sessions of DRV training courses this year. This initiative aims to individuals with the necessary skills to cope with the growing of disasters effectively.
The role of DRV is paramount. They adhere to the principles of "self-help, mutual assistance, and public assistance," promptly assisting in reducing the loss of life and property in the community. Moreover, they strengthen the disaster response network between the government and citizens, thereby raising awareness of disaster prevention among the entire population.
TRC is committed to promoting and strengthening community disaster preparedness and response capabilities. Since 2011, TRC have conducted 4 training sessions, with 130 individuals completing the program, and 1 session in 2012, with 37 participants. This year, in 2024, TRC plan to organize 6 training course.
Today, 30 participants are attending the training, including 18 local residents from TRC nearby Shalun Vil., 1 TRC member, and 11 participants from external organizations. Through a series of engaging and informative courses, these participants will gain valuable knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness, contributing to their own safety and that of their communities.
TRC not only provides rescue and assistance but also actively supports communities, company, and non-governmental organizations in promoting relevant disaster preparedness initiatives. As advocates for disaster preparedness, TRC will continue to encourage greater community involvement.
